CD or savings? Compare the dollars over the same term.
Enter one deposit, the CD APY, the savings APY, and the CD term. InfoShot estimates the ending balance for each so you can see how much rate difference is actually worth.
This compares the same lump-sum deposit over the CD term. It assumes the CD reaches maturity and the savings APY stays unchanged. It does not include taxes, early-withdrawal penalties, or new deposits.
Calculator logic reviewed September 9, 2026. Manual APYs are illustrative inputs unless a verified preset is selected.
Yield is only one factor
A CD may lock a rate but also lock your money. A savings account generally offers more liquidity while its APY can change. The higher projected balance is not automatically the better financial choice.
APY is treated correctly
APY is an effective annual yield. The calculator compounds it over the selected number of months instead of treating APY as a simple annual interest rate.
Check withdrawal terms
Early-withdrawal penalties vary by CD and can materially change the result. This first comparison assumes the CD is held to maturity and excludes taxes and penalties.
